Vietnam's top telecommunications firm Viettel is set to invest VND4,000 billion ($151.8 million) in expanding 5G coverage in Ho Chi Minh City this year, in order expand the 5G service to nearly all citizens in the city.

Vietnam will prioritize immediate development and deployment of six products, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), 5G network, and Blockchain-tracking application & digital assets, the Ministry of Science and Technology said at a Tuesday meeting on strategic technologies.

The US ambassador to Malaysia, warned of “national security risks” unless Malaysia stuck with its original plan for 5G deployment, according to the report.

Malaysia plans to introduce a second 5G network from next year, Reuters reported on Monday, quoting four sources.
