Tencent Cloud, the cloud unit of Chinese technology giant Tencent, and Malaysia’s U Mobile will jointly develop 5G and AI solutions for businesses in Malaysia, the companies said.

In a statement on Monday, Tencent Cloud said the two sides have signed a memorandum of understanding for the move. Tencent Cloud will combine its AI and cloud services with U Mobile’s 5G network and its Enterprise Innovation Platform to develop, test, and demonstrate applications for enterprises and smaller firms.

Successful cases can advance to pilot deployments and commercial launch. No financial terms were disclosed.

U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network operator, launched its ULTRA5G service in 2025 and opened the enterprise platform this year as a testing ground for 5G and AI projects. Tencent Cloud said the deal was its first AI-focused partnership with a Malaysian telecommunications company.

Poshu Yeung, a senior vice president at Tencent Cloud and head of its international business, said the partnership can help enterprises and developers build 5G and AI applications supporting Malaysia’s digital transformation. Woon Ooi Yuen, U Mobile’s chief technology officer, said the tie-up can turn ideas into practical solutions through the platform’s develop-test-demonstrate approach.

The companies said they would run workshops, demonstrations, and pilot showcases with businesses, startups, developers and universities, and share expertise in areas such as 5G, AI, system integration, and security.
