Green GSM has launched its all-electric taxi service in Northern Mindanao, extending the Vietnamese mobility operator’s Philippine footprint to Cagayan de Oro and surrounding areas.
The company said in a September 29 announcement that the service is now operating in Cagayan de Oro, El Salvador, Laguindingan, Alubijid and Opol. The coverage includes intercity trips and transfers to and from Laguindingan Airport.
Service follows a regional trial
Green GSM said it began a trial in Northern Mindanao in late August before starting commercial operations. Customers can request a vehicle through the Green GSM mobile app or a hotline, while street hailing is also available.
The operator said the regional fleet consists entirely of VinFast electric vehicles. It did not disclose the number of vehicles deployed, the models assigned to the service, the size of its investment or the charging network supporting the operation.
Green GSM described the launch as Northern Mindanao’s first all-electric taxi service. That characterization is a company claim and was not independently verified. The announcement also did not provide utilization data from the trial or a comparison of fares with conventional taxis and other ride-hailing services.
Philippine expansion continues
The Northern Mindanao launch adds another regional market to Green GSM’s Philippine network. The company began operating in Metro Manila in 2025 and has since expanded its services and partnerships in Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.
In September, Green GSM held a driver event that included the handover of 1,000 electric vehicles to driver partners. It has also introduced a seven-seat premium electric taxi tier and signed agreements intended to broaden the availability of VinFast vehicles for passenger transport.
The company operates within the mobility ecosystem of Vietnam-based conglomerate Vingroup and uses vehicles made by Vingroup-affiliated automaker VinFast. Its operating model combines directly managed taxi services with driver and transport-operator partnerships.
Regional mobility implications
The expansion brings a dedicated electric taxi fleet to an urban and airport corridor outside the country’s largest metropolitan areas. In practice, the impact will depend on fleet availability, charging capacity, vehicle uptime and the number of drivers participating in the network.
Green GSM said the launch is intended to give residents and visitors a lower-emission transport option. Electric vehicles do not produce tailpipe emissions, although their overall environmental impact also depends on electricity generation, vehicle production and battery lifecycle management.
