DayOne Data Centers, a Singapore-headquartered developer and operator of data centers, and Sembcorp Utilities, a subsidiary of Singapore’s Sembcorp Industries, have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore integrating power and energy solutions into DayOne’s data center projects across Asia.
In a statement on Thursday, DayOne said the two companies would evaluate on-site power infrastructure and generation, renewable energy supply, and operations and maintenance services. The collaboration will support DayOne’s “Bring Your Own Power” initiative, which can brings power planning into the earliest stages of a data center’s development.
The approach aims to reduce execution risk, manage increasingly constrained power markets, and give customers more certainty as they scale.
Jamie Khoo, CEO of DayOne, said scaling digital infrastructure means planning the energy supply from the outset. He said the company secures critical resources, including power, land, water and connectivity, in order to build quickly and responsibly.
Koh Chiap Khiong, president and CEO, Gas and Related Services at Sembcorp, said powering AI requires energy infrastructure to grow alongside digital infrastructure. Working with DayOne early would help the two companies explore solutions that match its requirements, the executive added.
The companies intend to jointly evaluate the feasibility, business case and possible implementation paths for energy solutions tied to agreed projects. The framework covers reliable and cost-competitive power, power generation and electrical infrastructure, fuel supply and storage, renewable energy, and related technical and operational services.
In Singapore, DayOne has a power purchase agreement with Sembcorp for the upcoming SG1 data center. The facility will run entirely on renewable energy.
