National Payment Corporation (NAPAS), a payment platform in Vietnam, has connected its VietQRGlobal payment infrastructure with China’s Weixin Pay, enabling Chinese visitors to scan QR codes and make payments in Vietnam.

In a statement on Thursday, NAPAS said the collaboration can facilitate QR payment at available places, including retail stores, restaurants, hotels, and tourist attractions.

BIDV, a major bank in Vietnam, serves as the settlement bank for transactions processed through the connection. The service is expected to reach more than one billion Weixin users.

Weixin Pay, also known as WeChat Pay, is the third Chinese payment platform to complete cross-border QR payment connectivity with NAPAS in 2026. The previous ones are UnionPay and Alipay.

NAPAS, BIDV, and Weixin Pay plan to develop a reverse payment direction allowing Vietnamese visitors to use domestic banking applications and e-wallets to scan QR codes and make payments in China.

Nguyen Quang Minh, CEO of NAPAS, said the connection completes QR payment interoperability serving Chinese tourists in Vietnam and extends VietQRGlobal’s reach to the world’s largest tourist and user market.

Hoang Viet Hung, CEO of BIDV, said the expanded QR connection contributes to linking the two economies through modern digital financial infrastructure. BIDV is committed to supporting cashless payments and helping businesses expand market access, he added.

Ben Yang, Executive Director of Weixin Pay for Southeast Asia and North America, said China has consistently ranked among Vietnam’s largest international tourism source markets. Seamless QR payment connectivity can enhance tourist experiences, encourage spending, and help Vietnamese businesses and merchants serve international visitors more effectively, the executive added.
