Vietnam’s National Payment Corporation (NAPAS), lender VietinBank, and Singapore-based fintech Liquid Group have launched a cross-border QR payment service between Vietnam and Singapore, allowing Singapore payment app users to scan VietQRGlobal codes at merchant locations across Vietnam without needing cash or currency exchange.

In a statement regarding the launch on Thursday, NAPAS said the service processes transactions in real time with direct conversion between Singapore dollars and Vietnamese dong.

In its initial phase, the service can reach approximately 3 million users through Liquid Group’s partner network in Singapore. Singapore marks NAPAS’s sixth cross-border QR payment market and fourth within ASEAN.

The launch comes as tourism between the two countries grows strongly. According to the ministry-run Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), international arrivals in the first five months of 2026 reached 10.6 million, up 14.9 percent year-on-year.

A survey by Changi Airport Group found that three in five Singaporeans have visited Vietnam, with 95 percent expressing a desire to return. Singaporean tourists are known for above-average spending and a preference for cashless payments.

Nguyen Quang Minh, General Director of NAPAS, said the launch marks an important development in NAPAS’s roadmap to expand cross-border payment connectivity across the region. NAPAS will continue working with domestic and international partners to build out the cross-border payment ecosystem, he added.

Jeremy Tan, CEO of Liquid Group, said the company aims to build a simple, interconnected, and trustworthy cross-border payment ecosystem through its RoamQR platform. Liquid Group strives to help tourists pay abroad using their familiar home apps while helping merchants serve international customers without added complexity.

Tran Cong Quynh Lan, Deputy General Director of VietinBank, said the bank is committed to expanding its digital financial ecosystem. VietinBank will work with partners to broaden VietQRGlobal merchant acceptance to bring the service closer to Singapore visitors, the executive added.

NAPAS and its partners plan to launch the reverse payment flow from Vietnam to Singapore later in 2026, completing a two-way payment ecosystem between the two countries.
