Singapore-headquartered e-commerce and gaming giant Sea Ltd, known for e-commerce platform Shopee, plans to expand its operations in Vietnam into banking, financial services, and modern logistics,

Forrest Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of Sea Ltd made the statement at a meeting with Vietnamese General Secretary-President To Lam last Saturday, on the sidelines of the latter’s state visit to Singapore.

For his part, To Lam agreed with the proposal to deepen cooperation and encouraged Sea Limited to enlarge activities in Vietnam, such as e-commerce growth, support for small businesses with digital transformation and sales channels, and digital supply chains integration.

The country’s top leader also called on Sea Limited to explore expanded cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), data, and digital technology to help small businesses, household enterprises, and Vietnamese sellers improve their operational capabilities and reach new markets.

He also encouraged the group to promote cross-border e-commerce, develop digital payments and digital financial services, and advance inclusive financial solutions in Vietnam.

According to Vietnam’s e-commerce data analyzer Metric.vn, Shopee was the biggest e-commerce platform in Vietnam as of end-2025 with a market share of 56 percent, down from 64 percent in 2024. The runner-up was TikTok Shop with 41 percent, up from 29 percent in 2024. Together, Shopee and TikTok Shop accounted for nearly 100 percent of the e-commerce market in Vietnam.
