Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has officially inaugurated its AI Experience Center (AIEC) in Jayapura, Papua Province, as part of its commitment to expanding access to and the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) technology for communities across Eastern Indonesia.

Indosat said in a statement on Wednesday that this milestone reinforces the firm’s role as a driving force in Indonesia’s digital awakening, with AI as a key enabler of equitable and sustainable progress.

The AI Experience Center in Jayapura focuses on two key sectors: education and healthcare.

In education, AI enables personalized and accessible learning experiences for students in underdeveloped and remote regions, promoting equal educational opportunities across the country.

In healthcare, AI technology allows for faster and more accurate diagnoses of diseases such as tuberculosis, providing critical support for medical personnel in facilities with limited resources.

“I appreciate Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison’s initiative in establishing the AI Experience Center in Jayapura,

“Digital transformation must reach every corner of our nation. The presence of this center is a symbol of Indonesia’s digital awakening—an era where every citizen, including those in Papua, has equal access, opportunity, and competitiveness,” said Nezar Patria, Vice Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

Vikram Sinha, President Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, said the AI Experience Center in Jayapura is a testament to Indosat’s commitment to making technology a unifying and empowering force.

“By bringing AI to regions that require greater attention, we aim to create more equitable access to quality education and support more responsive and accurate healthcare services,

“This is a tangible manifestation of our mission to empower Indonesia and drive inclusive technological advancement,” he added.

According to the statement, partnering with global partner like Huawei and Wadhwani Foundation, AI Experience Center is expected to act as a catalyst for innovation, strengthen human capital development, and deliver practical AI applications that benefit society.

More than just a symbol of Indonesia’s entry into a new era of technological revolution, the center marks the beginning of the nation’s journey toward becoming a leader in AI, it noted.

In addition to cutting-edge AI technologies, the Jayapura AI Experience Center is supported by Indosat’s 5G network and is equipped with various supporting facilities, including training rooms, access to digital learning platforms, and collaborative spaces for students, professionals, and local communities.

The center is envisioned as a hub for nurturing digital talent from Papua and bridging the digital access gap between Western and Eastern Indonesia.

By bringing the AI Experience Center to Papua, Indosat also reaffirms its commitment to advancing inclusive digital transformation.

It highlighted that this initiative is designed to develop local digital talent and promote AI adoption in Eastern Indonesia, accelerating regional growth and development.

Through a strong culture of innovation and skill-building, the AI Experience Center aims to accelerate digital transformation in the region while opening new opportunities for economic growth and social progress, said the statement.
