Indonesian telecommunications firm Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has announced a strategic collaboration with Swedish telecommunications firm Ericsson and Google Cloud to consolidate its business support system (BSS) onto a single cloud-based platform.

Indosat said in a statement on last Thursday that this initiative marks a crucial milestone in Indosat’s digital transformation journey, enhancing service agility while reducing operational complexity.

It also paves the way for Indosat to introduce new innovative business models that will empower Indonesia’s digital economy.

This collaboration aligns with Indosat’s greater purpose of empowering Indonesia and supporting the Indonesia 2045 vision through digitalization.

“With the spirit of Gotong Royong in delivering world-class digital experiences, we are collaborating with Ericsson and Google Cloud to build a more intelligent BSS ecosystem,

“By leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-native technology, we are enabling cutting-edge business models that will drive growth across industries,” said Vikram Sinha, President Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison.

“Consolidating services into a single, scalable platform on Google Cloud allows us to create and deliver a stronger and more sustainable digital ecosystem for Indonesia,” he added.

Through this collaboration, Indosat, with support from Ericsson, will migrate its entire BSS stack to Google Cloud, integrated with a wide range of cloud-native solutions and applications from Ericsson’s Business and Operations Support Systems (OSS/BSS) portfolio, powering connectivity for its subscribers across Indonesia.

This transformation will also help Indosat’s customers accelerate AI adoption at scale and enhance customer experiences in the era of seamless connectivity, thereby unlocking new opportunities in Indonesia’s digital economy.

The move to a public cloud-based BSS platform on Google Cloud is part of a broader vision to unify all lines of business and brands under a single, future-proof system.

“With Google Cloud’s workload-optimized infrastructure —which leverages Google’s expertise in building and operating highly available and highly reliable planetary-scale compute, storage, and networking systems to support services like Google Search, YouTube, Gmail, and more—companies like Indosat can stay ahead of their existing and emerging workloads’ ever-growing demands, especially as they innovate with AI, Indosat’s vision to transform with cloud and AI to develop new business models for Indonesia is significant,

“We’re committed to supporting them as a long-term partner, working together to achieve our shared goal of empowering Indonesian businesses,” said Karan Bajwa, President of Asia Pacific, Google Cloud.

As part of the broader partnership, Indosat and Ericsson will explore future technology innovations to support Indonesia’s long-term digitalization efforts.

This includes running Ericsson’s latest BSS components for Indosat on Google Cloud and demonstrating next-generation functionalities to drive efficiency and customer-centric innovations.

The collaboration also aims to unify user experiences across all Indosat brands, ensuring seamless digital services for millions of users.

“Indosat has already seen real success and achieved significant momentum in its transformative BSS journey, supported by Ericsson,

“It continues apace, with a clear goal of consolidating all business lines and brands into a single, cloud-based platform,” said Andres Vicente – Senior Vice President, Ericsson South East Asia, Oceania, and India.

“The companies’ close collaboration gives Indosat access to the latest Ericsson Business and Operational Support Systems capabilities, boosted by AI throughout the portfolio, bringing significant enhancements to performance, cost efficiency, and time-to-market,

“Our partnership is a key step in accelerating Indonesia’s digital transformation and positioning Indosat as a leader in the telecom industry,” he added.

By taking advantage of the public cloud’s agility and the latest AI advancements, Indosat, with support from Ericsson and Google Cloud, is pioneering a unique BSS ecosystem that will strengthen Indonesia’s position as a digital powerhouse, said the statement.

This strategic transformation will not only enhance Indosat’s competitiveness but also contribute to the country’s broader goal of sustainable digital economic growth, it added.
