The Sandbox, a subsidiary of Animoca Brands, announced Friday that PwC Hong Kong, an international subsidiary of the global PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) organization, has acquired a virtual land site in The Sandbox metaverse.

PwC Hong Kong thus becomes the first member of an internationally recognised professional services network, and the first member firm of the PwC global network, to publicly enter The Sandbox, The Sandbox said in a statement.

PwC is a global network of firms in 156 countries with more than 295,000 people delivering assurance, advisory, and tax services, and PwC Hong Kong is the particular entity that acquired land in The Sandbox.

“The metaverse offers new possibilities for organisations to create value through innovative business models, as well as introducing new ways to engage with their customers and communities. We will leverage our expertise to advise clients who wish to embrace the metaverse on the full range of challenges presented by this emerging global digital phenomenon,” said William Gee, Partner at PwC Hong Kong.

The Sandbox is a metaverse where users can create and monetize their own distinct worlds and game experiences on lands, which are non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that represent virtual real estate in The Sandbox.

According to the statement, professional services firms such as PwC Hong Kong can play a valuable role in the growth of the open metaverse, particularly by helping to build an ecosystem where companies and brands that may be less familiar with Web 3.0 can get the advice they need to explore the new and exciting opportunities created by this technology.

“The metaverse is open for business. We welcome PwC Hong Kong to experience how The Sandbox fosters new immersive experiences and ways for brands to connect with customers. It’s an exciting time – and PwC is at the forefront of this emerging frontier,” said Sebastien Borget, Chief Operating Officer of The Sandbox.

The Sandbox is one of the decentralized virtual worlds that has been fueling the recent growth of virtual real-estate demand having partnered with major IPs and brands including Adidas, Snoop Dogg, The Walking Dead, Deadmau5, Atari, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Care Bears, The Smurfs, and more.

Building on existing The Sandbox IP that has more than 40 million global installs on mobile, The Sandbox Metaverse offers players and creators a decentralized and intuitive platform to create immersive 3D worlds and game experiences and to safely store, trade, and monetize their creations.
