ShopeePay, Shopee’s all-in-one mobile wallet, said Thursday it has partnered with Malaysia-based payment solutions provider GHL Systems Bhd to expand digital payment acceptance in the Philippines, bringing cashless payment solutions for businesses and consumers to over 83,000 merchant points nationwide.
GHL, with a vast footprint of 383,600 payment touchpoints across the ASEAN region, coupled with ShopeePay’s vast and reliable clientele, is poised to drive Philippines digital payments ahead to catalyze contactless payments, in line with consumers’ payment behaviors that are shifting towards safer and more convenient options in the wake of the pandemic, both parties said in a statement.
ShopeePay e-wallet users will now be able to pay at establishments such as Phoenix Petroleum, Family Mart, Three Sixty Pharmacy, Prince Retail, and more chains nationwide.
The future of digital financial services in Southeast Asia sees great potential. By 2025, the region’s gross domestic product is expected to reach $4.7 trillion, with digital payments exceeding $1 trillion in transaction value. With more Filipinos continuing to embrace cashless payment methods, the total transaction value for digital payments is expected to have an annual growth rate of 14.67 percent in the next four years. With this, ShopeePay continues to expand its roster of partner merchants to serve more individuals anytime and anywhere.
“As more consumers adopt digital and contactless payments, it’s essential for ShopeePay to step up and provide easier ways for our consumers to transact online. Through our partnership with GHL, we can scale up our network of partners and offer our customers access to a wider variety of partner merchants. We will continue to collaborate with other organizations to support Filipino consumers embracing digital payments,” said ShopeePay Online Philippines Head Ruoshan Tao.
The collaboration between ShopeePay and GHL aims to encourage Filipinos in embracing digital payments. In tandem with The Digital Payments Transformation Roadmap led by the government of the Philippines to boost both financial and digital inclusion throughout the country, ShopeePay will push for partnerships and initiatives that will facilitate the community for easier adoption of finance digitalization.
“Adding ShopeePay to our range of digital payment acceptance is definitely the way forward to allow our merchants to reach a larger consumer base with Shopee’s expansive reach, and to continue growing along with ShopeePay’s promising scalability. At the end of the day, consumers are the clear winners from an enhanced payment experience,” said GHL Systems Philippines Chief Executive Officer Rey Maria R. Chumacera.
