Sunway Group is exploring three autonomous-mobility technologies for deployment in Malaysia, including electric driverless buses, automated logistics vehicles and electric aircraft. The proposals were announced at Transport Expo Asia 2026 and remain subject to technical testing and regulatory clearance.

The Malaysian group said it intends to work with WeRide, Neolix and AutoFlight across its integrated townships and business operations. The planned collaborations cover public transportation, delivery and potential aerial transport applications.

Two electric buses proposed for BRT-Sunway Line

Sunway is proposing to acquire and trial two fully electric autonomous buses from WeRide along the BRT-Sunway Line. The group said the Transport Ministry has granted conditional approval for a pilot, although that does not amount to approval for regular driverless passenger service.

The proposed trial would test whether autonomous buses can be integrated into an existing transit system. Sunway has also suggested that the technology could eventually support more frequent services or longer operating hours, depending on the results.

Logistics and aviation options

Under a separate proposal, Sunway plans to work with Neolix on autonomous logistics vehicles, which could be used to move goods and medical supplies or serve last-mile delivery operations. The company has not announced a commercial deployment timetable.

For aviation, Sunway is studying the acquisition and trial of an electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft from AutoFlight. The possible uses include aerial logistics, emergency response and passenger transportation. The group said it would engage Malaysia’s Civil Aviation Authority to assess feasibility and regulatory requirements.

The projects remain exploratory. Sunway has not indicated that commercial operations have begun, and the proposed trials will depend on approvals, infrastructure and practical performance assessments.
