Electric-vehicle (EV) maker VinFast, under Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup; and Gowa Motor Group, an Indonesian automotive group, will form a joint venture to develop VinFast’s dealership network in Indonesia, targeting at least 30 showrooms and service centers.
In a statement on Monday, VinFast said the two sides have signed a memorandum of understanding for the cooperation. The joint venture is part of VinFast’s broader expansion in Indonesia, where VinFast operates more than 40 showrooms and plans to add over 150 in the coming years. VinFast did not disclose other details of the deal.
Antonio Zara, chief executive of VinFast Southeast Asia, said combining VinFast’s products and technology with Gowa Motor Group’s local network and operating experience would support the company’s expansion in Indonesia. Sadikin Aksa, commissioner of Gowa Motor Group, said the partnership would create business opportunities for both companies and support wider adoption of electric vehicles in the country.
Indonesia is one of the key pillars of VinFast’s global growth strategy. The company has begun production at a manufacturing plant in Subang, West Java, and built a network of local partners in Indonesia, including the charging company V-Green and the electric ride-hailing service GSM.
