China’s Alibaba has launched Qwen3.8-Max, the largest AI model in its Qwen large language and multimodal model family, featuring 2.4 trillion parameters and a context window of up to 1 million tokens.
In a statement on Monday, Alibaba said the model ranks fifth in Text Arena and second in Vision Arena. It is now accessible via API on Alibaba Cloud Model Studio, with model weights scheduled for release the following week.
Despite its total size of 2.4 trillion parameters, Qwen3.8-Max activates only 95 billion parameters at inference time through a Sparse Mixture-of-Experts architecture. It also features with a hybrid attention mechanism, which can reduce computational costs and latency compared with traditional dense models of similar scale. The model is built on the foundation of Qwen 3.5.
On coding, the model ranks fourth in Frontend Code Arena. In internal testing, Qwen3.8-Max autonomously executed a software engineering project over a 16-day period, creating a self-evolving agent framework called oh-my-cli, which has been open-sourced on GitHub. The model also outperformed human participants in the WWW2025 Multimodal Dialogue Intent Recognition Challenge, a customer-service transcript analysis competition.
On multimodal capabilities, Qwen3.8-Max can process hundred-page documents, full television series, or 100-hour livestreams, converting them into searchable, interactive knowledge bases. Its visual capabilities include editing personal footage into professional video content, generating educational animations from text prompts, reconstructing front-end web projects from a single screenshot, transforming 2D floor plans into 3D interior visualizations, and building interactive games from natural language requests.
To test these capabilities, Alibaba introduced RecreationBench, a benchmark in which the model reconstructs applications from scratch in a black-box environment with no internet access or source code, relying only on interaction and visual feedback.
The model is also accessible on QwenWork, Alibaba’s workplace AI agent platform. Alibaba said Qwen3.8-Max can process complex real-world workloads spanning application design, legal document review, sports analytics, financial research, and architectural 3D modelling.
