China-based Ant Group has completed a strategic investment in Boohee Health, becoming its largest external shareholder with a stake of over 28 percent, as the two companies deepen cooperation in weight management and AI-driven health services.
In a statement on Wednesday, Ant Group said Boohee Health founder and CEO Ma Haihua remains the company’s largest overall shareholder.
Boohee Health has operated for nearly 20 years in weight management, nutritional intervention, and chronic disease prevention, serving a cumulative 200 million registered users and 30 million annual active users, with a food database containing more than 1.6 million entries.
Ant Group’s AI health app AQ, launched in June 2025, has become China’s largest AI-native health management app with over 100 million users, handling more than 10 million health-related queries per day. By integrating Boohee Health’s dietary knowledge base and behavioral intervention capabilities, AQ will enhance its services in dietary tracking and weight management.
At the end of June 2026, AQ launched a nationwide initiative in China encouraging users to collectively lose 50 million kilograms through science-based and sustainable weight management, supported by smart devices and behavioral incentives.
Ma Haihua said nearly two decades of practice have demonstrated that health management can be driven by professional knowledge, behavioral models, and digital capabilities. Both companies share strong alignment in their vision for AI-driven health innovation, the executive added.
Zhang Junjie, Vice President of Ant Group and Head of Health Business, said more users are turning to AI for everyday health support. Weight management is only the starting point, with Ant Group aiming to work with professional partners to evolve AQ into both an AI doctor-like assistant and a personal AI health coach, the executive highlighted.
The two parties will continue to explore scientific weight management, health-related e-commerce, joint model training, and broader ecosystem development.
