China’s Orbbec has broken ground on its overseas manufacturing factory in the northern province of Bac Ninh in Vietnam, as the 3D vision sensor maker moves to build a more resilient global production network.
In a LinkedIn post on Thursday, Orbbec said the 100,000-square-meter facility can reach completion and enter operations scheduled in 2027. Once operational, it will primarily manufacture 3D vision sensors and smart hardware products for overseas markets, with a target capacity of more than five million robots per year.
Orbbec said initial overseas production capacity is expected to begin operations in the near term, ahead of the full facility coming online.
The Vietnam factory will complement Orbbec’s intelligent manufacturing base in Shunde, China, which commenced operations at the end of 2024 and is ramping toward annual capacity of more than one million robots per year across its 100,000-square-metre facility. The China facility currently provides contract manufacturing services for companies developing rehabilitation robots, robotic lawn mowers, humanoid robots, warehouse robots, and cleaning robots.

Brent Chan, CFO of Orbbec, said the groundbreaking is a significant step forward in strengthening the company’s global manufacturing and delivery system. A multi-site manufacturing strategy will improve supply chain resilience and deliver higher-quality products to customers worldwide, the executive added.
