Taiwan’s QBit Semiconductor has acquired a 60 percent stake in Singapore-based SinChip Technology, as part of a push to expand its application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC) design services into Edge AI, high-performance computing, optical communications, and automotive sectors.
In a release on Wednesday, the Taiwanese firm said it would establish a global research and development network spanning Taiwan, Japan, the United States, Singapore, and Vietnam. QBit’s existing products are deployed in high-end multi-function printers, commercial imaging equipment, and related printing application markets. The firm has been expanding its ASIC design services in response to surging global demand for customized chips, QBit added.
Simon Shen, Chairman of QBit, said the acquisition can combine QBit’s SoC platform technology with SinChip’s experience in advanced technologies, AI, optical communications, and automotive chip development. The move can accelerate QBit’s expansion into the ASIC design services market.
Shen noted that QBit is the first and only IC design company in Taiwan to receive direct investment from Arm, and that growing demand for Edge AI, Physical AI, high-speed data transmission, and intelligent endpoint applications is driving a parallel rise in demand for highly integrated ASICs.
Headquartered in Singapore, SinChip specializes in IC logic verification, physical design, and advanced technology adoption services, with a team of approximately 130 engineers and development experience in advanced nodes including 3nm, 5nm, and 7nm processes.
