Singapore-based Ant International has introduced a new Agentic Mobile Protocol (AMP) to support the growing agentic commerce by enabling secure, AI-driven payment connections across mobile services.

In a release on Tuesday, Ant International said the protocol can integrate digital wallets, banking applications, super apps, and other mobile platforms, extending functionality across devices ranging from smartphones to wearables.

The initiative comes as agentic commerce—where artificial intelligence (AI) systems can independently conduct transactions—continues to expand. Industry projections estimate the global market could reach approximately $28 billion by 2030, driven by rapid adoption of autonomous transaction systems. At the same time, digital wallet usage is increasing, with 4.4 billion users recorded in 2025 and forecasts suggesting this figure could exceed 6 billion by the end of the decade.

Current payment protocols for AI systems are largely built around traditional card networks, which may not fully address the needs of mobile-first and AI-native environments. Merchants and digital wallet providers are seeking ways to streamline payment experiences, authenticate AI agents, and manage transactions without disruption.

According to Ant International, AMP can allow merchants, AI platforms, and developers to integrate agent-based payment capabilities directly into existing workflows without requiring significant system changes. The protocol is open-source, with the aim of establishing a standardized approach for secure AI-driven transactions across platforms.

Key features of the AMP framework include tools to simplify integration between AI agents and digital wallets, cross-device compatibility for payments, and mechanisms intended to enhance transaction security. The protocol also incorporates systems for delegating payment authority to AI agents, enabling users to monitor, adjust, or revoke permissions as needed.

In addition, AMP features an agent-to-agent settlement capability designed to handle high-frequency, low-value transactions between AI systems, including micro- and nano-scale payments. A “Know Your Agent” framework is also included to establish digital identities for AI agents and assess their trustworthiness through a risk management system.

Ant International is working with partners within its Alipay+ network to implement the protocol. The network includes more than 40 digital wallet partners, covering approximately 1.8 billion user accounts and 150 million merchants worldwide. The company is also collaborating with major payment networks such as Mastercard and Visa to explore card-based transaction capabilities for AI agents, and is working with Google on broader protocols for agentic commerce and payments.
