Grab Vietnam, under Southeast Asia’s technology giant Grab, will spend VND2,950.9 billion ($112 million) on fee cuts, driver refunds and incentives, and promotions in Vietnam, after the ministry-run National Competition Commission reviewed its fares calculation.

In a statement on Thursday, the commission said Grab would “proactively” provide the package, which takes effect from November 10. The offer includes reduced fees (for passengers and drivers), and higher driver bonuses, and promotions.

The commission clarified Grab suggested the changes after massive driver complaints. In September, drivers called for a two-day boycott, saying fares on some trips had fallen while their deductions had grown, leading to lower incomes.

Under the package, Grab will lower the passenger platform fee on some short trips. For GrabBike, it will reduce the fee for trips of up to 6 kilometers. For GrabCar, it will reduce the fee for trips of up to 4 kilometers.

From February 26 to December 31, 2027, Grab also plans a 10 percent discount on total fares for trips of 10 kilometers’ or more.

On driver-side fees, Grab will cut the app-usage fee range from 0 to 28.76 percent to 0 to 25 percent of total passenger payments for GrabBike, and from 0 to 28.28 percent to 0 to 25 percent for GrabCar.

The commission says Grab’s total take, including platform and app fees, will be capped at 32 percent of total passenger payments, down from a maximum of 40.60 percent for GrabBike and 39.81 percent for GrabCar.

After fees and taxes, drivers will keep between 60.59 and 85.59 percent of passenger payments on GrabBike, and between 59.68 and 84.31 percent on GrabCar. The minimum share is up about 8 percentage points from a previous low of 52 percent.

Grab also reviewed about 0.13 percent of trips since 2024 in which the deduction exceeded 35 percent of shared revenue. It will compensate VND3.9 billion to affected drivers. Grab said the excess was caused by supply-demand swings or algorithm errors.

For the fourth quarter of 2026, Grab will spend VND860 billion on driver incentives, meals, uniforms ,and support for drivers in hardship; and VND52 billion on fuel and electric-vehicle charging support. It will also spend VND1,808 billion on passenger promotions.

Grab will also redesign its Grab Driver app to show the revenue, fees, taxes, and deductions for each trip. Grab will also add more ways for drivers to contact the company and a dispute form.
