Vietnam’s tech giant FPT has put its advanced semiconductor chip testing and packaging plant into trial operation in Bac Ninh province, northern Vietnam.
In a statement on Tuesday, FPT said the factory features six testing lines and a maximum design capacity of 300 million chips a year. The plant is the first of its kind in Vietnam owned and operated by a domestic company, FPT said.
The plant, operated by FPT Analysis Technologies JSC, occupies 1,600 square metres in the Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park.
Chips are tested using automated test equipment that checks the chip’s functions and performance, along with handlers that load the chips into the test position and sort them into pass and fail groups. Testing is carried out in a Class 10,000 cleanroom, equivalent to ISO Class 7.
Beyond functional testing, the plant tests durability and reliability. Engineers subject chips to high temperatures, to repeated temperature swings and to combined heat and humidity, and they apply static-electricity controls to reduce the risk of damage during handling.
FPT announced the plant in January 2026. In its second phase, planned for 2028 to 2030, FPT intends to expand the plant to about 6,000 square meters and add more testing and packaging lines. FPT says it has more than 10 years of experience in semiconductors.
For the first nine months of 2026, FPT reported consolidated revenue of VND40,023 billion ($1.5 billion), up 12.4 percent. Its pre-tax profit reached VND8,770 billion, up 17 percent.
The technology bloc, which includes domestic and overseas IT services, contributed 89 percent of revenue and 58 percent of pre-tax profit, respectively. The education, investment, and other segment’s revenue fell 3.1 percent to VND4,508 billion, but its pre-tax profit rose 17.6 percent to VND3,719 billion.
