Anthropic, the developer of Claude AI, will join hands in Western Downs Digital Park, a data center project in Australia worth A$31.9 billion ($22.2 billion).

David Crisafulli, premier of Queensland state of Australia, made the statement at a Wednesday session of Queensland parliament, regarding energy development.

“Earlier today Anthropic signed an historic agreement for their first Australian data center. Queensland will be home to the Western Downs Digital Park, a long-term commitment to our state with the site plan to come online in 2027,” said David Crisafulli.

“It’s a major win that will deliver more jobs and put more energy into Queensland’s grid. I met with Anthropic during my recent trade mission to outline why Queensland was the place to invest with energy security and a streamlined approval process,” he added.

“To have secured Anthropic’s first major investment in Australia is a massive show of confidence in Queensland,” the leader of Queensland highlighted.

Located about 250 kilometers away from Brisbane, Western Downs Digital Park project covers 725.5 hectares and a designated peak capacity of 2.16 GW. The developer is Singapore-based Zerra DC.
