Malaysia’s U Mobile has launched ULTRA Home 5G Pro, a fixed-wireless broadband service offering advertised speeds of up to 2 Gbps over its 5G-Advanced network in Peninsular Malaysia.
The service starts at RM98 per month and includes a 2,000 GB monthly data quota, an 8×8 MIMO 5G-A connection and a WiFi 7 router. U Mobile is positioning it as an alternative for households that want high-speed connectivity without waiting for a fixed-fiber installation.
The launch also gives U Mobile another way to monetize the network it is building as Malaysia shifts toward a dual-network 5G structure.
8×8 MIMO and WiFi 7
U Mobile said the service uses 8×8 multiple-input multiple-output technology, allowing the router to receive more data streams simultaneously than conventional 4×4 configurations. The company claims this can produce speed gains of 20 percent to 100 percent depending on network and operating conditions.
The bundled 5G-A router supports WiFi 7 Multi-Link Operation, which can use multiple WiFi links to improve throughput and resilience for compatible devices.
As with other fixed-wireless products, actual household performance will depend on local 5G coverage, signal conditions, network load, device capability and placement of the router. The 2 Gbps figure is therefore a maximum advertised speed rather than a guaranteed household rate.
AI-assisted gaming traffic
U Mobile is also promoting an AI-Powered Game Turbo feature that identifies gaming traffic and prioritizes it separately from general data traffic. The company says the feature is intended to reduce latency and improve responsiveness across supported PC, console and mobile games.
The use of traffic classification for gaming is part of a wider trend among network operators toward application-aware optimization. The useful measure for customers will be whether the feature produces consistent latency improvements under real network congestion, rather than headline throughput alone.
U Mobile said ULTRA Home 5G Pro is initially available in Peninsular Malaysia, with East Malaysia availability to be announced later.
Another product for U Mobile’s standalone 5G push
The home-broadband launch follows a series of moves by U Mobile to build out its role as Malaysia’s newer 5G network provider. TNGlobal reported in August that U Mobile had entered OpenAI’s first Malaysian telecommunications collaboration, covering internal AI use, network operations, customer applications and enterprise innovation.
Earlier in the year, U Mobile also signed a three-year wholesale agreement to provide 5G services to Telekom Malaysia. Its home broadband service expands the commercial use cases for that infrastructure from mobile access and wholesale capacity into direct household connectivity.
Fixed wireless will not replace fiber in every setting, particularly where very consistent latency or symmetrical capacity is required. But faster 5G-A equipment gives operators another option for locations where fiber installation is slow, costly or unavailable.
