Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by billionaire Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has officially launched commercial service across Vietnam.

Starlink confirmed the launch on a post on X on Wednesday. On its website, Starlink noted the service is run by its local unit, Starlink Services Vietnam. Customers ordering equipment and registering must provide personal or business identification. The account name must match their identity documents exactly.

For households, the service offers two hardware options, namely the Standard 4X kit at $390 and the more compact Starlink Mini at $329. Monthly fees range from $43 for a basic 100 Mbps plan to $65 for the standard family plan.

For businesses, the domestic priority hardware costs $440, with monthly plans sold in package of 50 GB for $56, 500 GB for $144, 1 TB for $254, and 2 TB for $474.

Starlink was licensed by the Ministry of Science and Technology in February to provide satellite telecommunications, under a controlled pilot whose initial phase is limited to four ground gateway stations and up to 600,000 terminals.

The company uses a low-Earth-orbit satellite constellation, which it says provides lower latency than traditional satellite internet. It can reach location without fiber-optic cable, such as islands and remote regions. It can also act as a backup connection for organizations and businesses.

Prior to Starlink’s official launch, two Vietnamese businesses have disclosed their cooperation with Starlink.

VinSpace, a member of Vietnam’s conglomerate Vingroup ecosystem, has signed a launch contract with the United States-based SpaceX to carry its satellites aboard a Transporter rideshare mission in 2027.

Budget airline Vietjet Air, one of the most popular airlines in Vietnam, noted it has reached an in-flight connectivity agreement with Starlink Services Vietnam.
