Thailand’s Thai Aviation Industries (TAI), UAE-based Edgewater Solutions Limited, and Spain’s Amadeus will jointly develop a modernization roadmap for passenger processing and airport operations across Thailand’s international and regional airports.

The three have signed a memorandum of understanding for the move, Amedeus said in a statement on Thursday. Airports in Thailand currently handle 140 million passengers annually, according to the statement.

The MOU covers four broad areas: passenger processing, including self-service and off-airport check-in, automated bag drop, and real-time baggage reconciliation; identity and border flows, including e-gates, biometrics, and free-flow passenger processing; airport operations, including a centralized Airport Operational Database, resource management, flight information displays, and apron and ground-movement management; and data and platform integration connecting passenger journey analytics with operational systems.

Under the MOU, the parties will work to define the scope, phasing, and technical specifications for potential deployments across these areas. No financial terms were disclosed.

Piboon Vorravanpreecha, Managing Director of TAI, said modernizing Thailand’s airports is central to improving the passenger experience and strengthening Thailand’s position as an aviation hub in Southeast Asia. The collaboration can give TAI access to technology and expertise from Amadeus and Edgewater, the executive added.

Javier Laforgue, Executive Vice President and Managing Director for Asia-Pacific at Amadeus, said airports face pressure to serve more passengers while delivering smoother journeys. The collaboration can connect technologies, data, and partners to support the next generation of airport operations, the executive noted.
