Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched its first Local Zone in Vietnam, located in Hanoi, bringing AWS-managed cloud infrastructure to organizations across healthcare, finance, gaming, and other sectors operating in the country.

The Local Zone delivers single-digit millisecond latency, enabling use cases such as financial services executing trades with millisecond responsiveness, and gaming and media companies lowering latency for real-time multiplayer experiences and live streaming. Organizations can run workloads in both AWS Regions and the Hanoi Local Zone using the same APIs and tools, supporting data residency requirements.

Jeff Johnson, Managing Director for ASEAN at AWS, said the Local Zone puts world-class compute and storage closer to Vietnamese organizations’ customers, helping them build, scale, and compete without compromise.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technolog Pham Duc Long highlighted the launch will provide a low-latency, secure cloud computing platform supporting Vietnamese businesses’ technology needs, and affirmed Vietnam’s position as a rapidly developing digital hub in Asia.

The Hanoi Local Zone joins AWS’s network of Local Zones across more than 30 metro areas on six continents, using the same pay-as-you-go pricing model as AWS Regions with no upfront investment or long-term contracts required.

Vietnamese organizations already utilizing the Hanoi Local Zone include banks VIB and VPBank, fintech company Trusting Social, and ride-hailing service GSM. AWS’s broader customer base in Vietnam includes startups AI Hay and Eklipse.gg, along with giants such as MOMO, Vinamilk, Techcombank, and Sovico Group.

Virginia B. Foote, Chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi, said the investment highlighted that Vietnam is a growing region well worth investing in.
