Malaysia’s 5G network provider U Mobile has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with global communications products and services provider Qualcomm Services to boost internet of things (IoT) adoption in Malaysia.
Under this MoU, the two companies will work together to accelerate digital transformation in Malaysia’s IoT market through initiatives that enhance real-time tracking, device and condition monitoring and supply chain efficiency, U Mobile said in a statement on Thursday.
The collaboration will leverage U Mobile’s next-gen network and the Qualcomm® Aware™ Platform, an end-to-end device observability, tracking and intelligence platform that is able to provide real-time insights, predictive analytics and AI-driven automation across a wide variety of use cases to produce integrated IoT solutions that aim to enhance asset visibility and security, optimize efficiencies as well as reduce costs for enterprises.
One of the first areas in which the parties will focus their collaborative efforts will be solutions tailored to logistics and supply chain management.
To drive adoption, the parties commit to developing go-to-market strategies tailored to various industries.
These include industries with high-value assets and goods that require real-time tracking, such as logistics, healthcare, and manufacturing; as well as sectors where environmental conditions significantly impact product quality, like pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and cold chain logistics.
Additionally, industries undergoing digital transformation and automation for efficiency gains, such as smart retail, oil and gas, and government fleets, will also be targeted.
The companies will also jointly identify meaningful use cases with select customers to showcase the benefits of the solutions.
“U Mobile is delighted to collaborate with Qualcomm Services to innovate IoT solutions that will enable smarter and more efficient supply chains,
“Our next gen network together with the Qualcomm Aware Platform will help ensure seamless performance through ultra-low latency and high-speed data transfer, enabling advanced automation,” said Neil Tomkinson, Chief Information Officer of U Mobile.
“As Malaysia’s second 5G network provider, we also look forward to playing a critical role in spurring adoption of these solutions in the logistics sector and beyond and will collaborate with Qualcomm Services to develop go-to-market strategies and use cases for industry digitalization,” he added.
ST Liew, Vice President and President, QC Taiwan, SEA and ANZ, said the firm is thrilled to announce this collaboration with U Mobile to open up new opportunities for tracking valuable assets, goods and shipments across a wide range of industries.
“By leveraging our Qualcomm Aware™ Platform services together with U Mobile’s cutting-edge connectivity, enterprises will be able to easily integrate enhanced real-time location and monitoring capabilities, ensuring that they can gain additional insights into operational conditions, location and performance, and take proactive steps to maintain peak efficiency,” he added.
It is noted that the two parties have previously collaborated on a proof-of-concept (PoC) with the TROLLEE P1, a smart retail solution for shopping carts that enhanced customers’ retail experience.
They have also worked together to introduce a 24-month healthcare progra called Sistem Integrasi KeHidupan Antara Teknologi (SIHAT) to provide telemedicine services for patients with diabetes and hypertension.
