ProfilePrint, a Singapore-based artificial intelligence (AI)-driven ingredient quality platform, has announced the signing of new agreements with Brazil’s two largest coffee exporting cooperatives, Cooxupé and Minasul, as well as Instituto CNA, a government-supported institution representing Brazil’s agricultural sectors.
By adopting ProfilePrint’s AI solutions, these three Brazilian organizations can better support rural producers in rapid quality assessment, improving efficiency and enhancing its market competitiveness globally, ProfilePrint said in a statement on Tuesday.
It is noted that Brazil’s food and agricultural sector, a global powerhouse producing key commodities like coffee, soybeans, juices, beef, and poultry, is increasingly focused on modernizing operations. However, quality control and sustainability remain significant challenges.
As production scales up and environmental concerns grow, the demand for improved food quality standards intensifies.
ProfilePrint addresses this challenge with its patented technology, combining a sensor based analyzer and a cloud-based AI platform.
Its analyzer captures digital fingerprints of food ingredients, which are digitally processed online via AI models on the ProfilePrint ingredient quality platform to predict quality, flavor profiles, and even blend recommendations.
This digital fingerprint technology significantly reduces the need for physical sampling and logistics overheads, while ensuring consistent quality control and minimizing unnecessary rejections.
The statement highlighted the adoption of ProfilePrint’s solutions represents a key step toward modernizing Brazil’s agricultural processes, ultimately fostering a more sustainable and competitive industry.
The signing of these agreements comes after months of groundwork by ProfilePrint’s team in Brazil and Singapore, including partnerships with major clients through extensive research and development (R&D) efforts.
Most notably, these efforts have led to advancements in non-visual defect (NVD) detection, one of the most challenging issues in the coffee industry.
It is noted that many defects, such as internal bean damage, slight fermentation or early-stage mold, cannot be visually detected, but can significantly affect its quality and taste. The natural variability in coffee beans further complicates the challenge.
While current detection requires onerous human sensory evaluation, which is subjective and prone to inconsistencies, ProfilePrint’s proprietary AI technology is at the forefront of tackling this challenge.
Its early release for some of its major clients in Brazil and China has shown positive results, with this world’s first commercial AI solution for NVD detection expected to launch in early 2025.
Concomitantly, beyond its core in the coffee industry, ProfilePrint also announced its expansion to serve other ingredients and processed food with its official launch of “Orca”, its fifth generation analyzer with significant extension of its analytical range, more than doubling its data acquisition within seconds.
This unlocks more possibilities over and above the existing verticals ProfilePrint is serving, expanding into more complex ingredients requiring higher sensitivity such as flavorings, instant and roasted coffee, as well as processed food products.
“By digitizing food ingredients with ProfilePrint, similar to how Microsoft first digitized documents, samples shipment and logistic overheads can be significantly reduced, enhancing human productivity and supply chain efficiency,” ProfilePrint’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer Alan Lai said.
According to him, the partnerships in Brazil and the launch of non-visual defect detection and the more powerful “Orca” analyser, not only deepen their impact in the coffee industry but also pave the way for expansion into broader agricultural ingredients and more complex processed food sectors.
Meanwhile, Instituto CNA’s Executive Director Matheus Ferreira said the collaboration with ProfilePrint exemplifies their commitment to advancing technological solutions that empower farmers and drive progress in agriculture, ensuring a sustainable and innovative future for Brazil’s agricultural sector.
Cooxupé’s Superintendent of New Business and Coffee Roastery Mario Panhotta also said the partnership with ProfilePrint enables Cooxupé to advance transformative solutions within the coffee industry, ensuring that our cooperative remains at the forefront of innovation while delivering high-quality coffee to the world.
Minasul’s New Business DirectorLuis Henrique Albinati added that the firm is thrilled to collaborate with ProfilePrint in developing cutting-edge solutions that will revolutionize how coffee quality is assessed, reflecting their commitment to innovation and excellence in the global coffee industry.
