Uzma Environergy Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysia-listed Uzma Berhad, has entered into three memorandum of understanding (MOU)s on battery storage solutions and energy efficiency solutions.
The firm said in a statement on Tuesday that Uzma Environergy via the strategic collaborations with Terawatt, MSSB and UNITEN will provide opportunities for Uzma Environergy to leverage the expertise of technology specialists for battery energy storage system (BESS), with potential of adoption of the same in Uzma Environergy’s future renewable energy endeavors.
Uzma Environergy has entered into a MOU with Taiwan-based Terawatt Ltd. for a potential collaboration in joint development and commercialization of product, projects and/or solution in the field of energy storage and renewable energy.
TERAWATT is a company incorporated in Taiwan that initiates and undertakes research and development as well as commercialization in the fields of energy storage system, electric vehicle, drone technology, artificial intelligence, agriculture, clean and renewable energy.
Uzma Environergy has also sealed a MOU with Universiti Tenaga Nasional Sdn. Bhd. (UNITEN), a subsidiary of Malaysia-listed Tenaga Nasional, for a potential collaboration in the field of energy management and storage and renewable energy.
UNITEN is an established private educational institution focusing on engineering, computer science & information technology, business, accounting, finance, energy management and related areas.
Uzma Environergy has also inked a MOU with MIMOS Services Sdn. Bhd. (MSSB), a wholly owned subsidiary of MIMOS Berhad, for potential collaboration in research and development of information and communications, technology and microelectronics.
MSSB is a company incorporated in Malaysia which is involved in research and development (R&D) shared facilities and services in the area of information and communication technology and microelectronics as part of the Malaysian Economic Transformation Program under the Electrical and Electronics National Key Economic Area.
“it is a pivotal moment for Uzma Environergy to expand and be aligned with the innovation of the renewable energy technology,” Uzma Environergy’s Chief Executive Officer, Mohd Hilmy Abdullah Zawawi said.
According to him, scaling up battery energy storage systems (BESS) solutions is not an option but a necessity for advancing the Malaysia’s renewable energy industry as it is a tested and proven solution internationally.
He also noted BESS Solutions is among the factors to ensure a consistent and reliable power supply.
“Uzma Environergy is pursuing opportunities to participate in the (Malaysian) government’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) and we are considering the firm output capacity as in the requirement, the collaborations with BESS technology specialists such as Terawatt, MSSB and research and development activities with UNITEN are timely,” he added.
Meanwhile, Uzma chief executive officer Kamarul Redzuan Muhamed said Uzma Environergy is looking forward to the opportunities to collaborate on facilities, resources and
expertise of MSSB and UNITEN.
“When coupled with industry and commercial insights, these collaborations are expected to enhance Uzma Environergy’s research and development capabilities and competitive advantages,” he added.
In respect of its 50 megawatt (MW) large scale solar plant, Uzma Environergy clarified that its flagship project i.e., Uzma Kuala Muda large-scale solar (LSS) plant is in the midst of achieving the initial operation date (IOD) and has obtained its generation license from the Suruhanjaya Tenaga on August 19.
It noted Uzma Kuala Muda’s 50MW LSS plant has resulted in approximately MYR 225 million ($51.39 million) worth of investment.
Uzma also said the execution of the MOUs is another milestone for Uzma Environergy to position itself as a key player in advancing technology solutions in energy storage and renewable energy in Malaysia.

The firm is expanding into new markets and has diversified into new growth areas such as new energy, digital earth, and energy trading business.

Since its inception, the firm has successfully secured over 98MW renewable energy projects, consists of LSS projects and net energy metering (NEM) projects.
