Green SM, a Vietnamese ride-hailing company utilizing only electric vehicles (EV) of VinFast brand, has launched its taxi service in Los Angeles, its first entry into North America and its ninth global market.

Green SM (GSM) and VinFast are brands under the ecosystem of Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup.

In a statement on Tuesday, Vingroup said the launch extends its international expansion after rapid growth in Asia and Europe. Starting October 13, riders in Los Angeles can book through the Green SM app, by calling the company’s hotline, or by hailing a vehicle on the street.

The service will cover everyday trips, longer journeys, and airport transfers, with transparent fare information and promotions.

In Los Angeles, the company operates a fleet made up entirely of VinFast vehicles, including the latest VF 8 model.

New customers who sign up will receive 50 percent off fares, up to $12 per ride, on their first five trips. Customers will also receive a complimentary Green Pass membership, which includes 10 discount vouchers a month, each offering 30 percent off fares, up to $10 per ride.

Hoang Thanh Hang, CEO of Green SM in the United States, said the company aims to build trust with customers, drivers, and local communities “one journey at a time.” She said the company’s experience in other markets shows that electric mobility depends on service quality and well-trained drivers, as well as on the fleet.

After the launch, Green SM plans to build a local team, strengthen its operations, and recruit and train local drivers.

Green SM was founded in Vietnam in 2023 and now operates in Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Kazakhstan, Denmark and the Netherlands.
