Digital Realty has started construction of KIX15, a 24-megawatt data center at its KIX Campus in Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture, as it expands capacity for higher-density cloud and AI workloads in Japan.
The facility is being developed by MC Digital Realty, Digital Realty’s 50-50 joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation. KIX15 will be the fifth data center at the Osaka campus and is scheduled to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2028.
Digital Realty said the project will bring MC Digital Realty’s Japan portfolio to 10 data centers and about 220 MW of aggregate IT capacity when completed. The facility is designed to support hybrid air and liquid cooling for higher-density computing environments.
KIX15 is also part of MC Digital Realty’s Kansai AI Infrastructure Co-Creation Project, which combines data center development with domestic and international connectivity and collaboration with telecommunications and technology partners.
Customers at the campus will be able to connect to cloud services and other locations in Japan through multiple network providers and Digital Realty’s ServiceFabric platform, as well as to the company’s wider global data center footprint.
