Philippine lender Security Bank is targeting the second half of 2027 for the rollout of Apple Pay and Google Pay as it upgrades its core credit-card infrastructure.
Security Bank President and Chief Executive Victor Lee told The Philippine Star that the bank could not introduce the mobile wallets this year because it is still replacing its underlying credit-card system.
Core card migration comes first
Lee said the bank expects both Apple Pay and Google Pay to become available in the second half of next year. The timetable makes the wallet launch dependent on completion and stabilization of the card-platform upgrade.
Apple Pay launched in the Philippines on August 4. TNGlobal later reported that GoTyme became the first Philippine digital bank to offer Apple Pay.
Banks look beyond wallets to everyday payments
Security Bank is also watching broader adoption of QR-based payments. The bank’s retail digital platform has 1.71 million customers, with around 65 percent considered active users, according to The Philippine Star.
The 2027 timetable means Security Bank will enter after some Philippine competitors have already enabled Apple Pay, but the bank is sequencing the core card migration ahead of wallet support.
