Green SM has launched its electric motorbike service in Jakarta, expanding its all-electric transportation ecosystem in Indonesia to include two-wheeled mobility alongside electric taxis.
The company said in a statement on Thursday that the service is aimed at meeting the daily transportation needs of Jakarta residents, with a focus on convenience, safety, fleet quality and transparent pricing.
Jakarta, one of the region’s most dynamic cities, has strong demand for motorbike-based transportation, making flexible and efficient mobility options important for urban residents, Green SM said.
The company will deploy fully electric VinFast motorbikes and operate the service with a professional and trained driver team. Customers can book rides through the Green SM app, either through standard ride-hailing or the Green Now feature for faster bookings.
The expansion will also provide new income opportunities for two-wheel service drivers through flexible rental arrangements, Green SM said.
Under its rent-to-own option, drivers can rent a vehicle from IDR39,000 per day, with guaranteed earnings of up to IDR160,000 per day and the opportunity to own the vehicle after two years.
Green SM Global Chief Executive Officer Pham Nhat Minh Hoang said the Jakarta launch was a strategic step in the company’s international expansion.
“We aim to build a comprehensive fully electric mobility ecosystem encompassing both electric cars and electric motorbikes, enabling us to meet a broader range of everyday mobility needs,” he said.
Hoang said Green SM also sought to be a long-term partner to Indonesia in its green transition and emissions reduction efforts.
According to vehicle life-cycle assessments cited by Green SM, electric cars and motorbikes can generate about 75 percent lower emissions than gasoline-powered vehicles.
Globally, Green SM has completed about 850 million rides covering nearly 6 billion kilometres, helping reduce more than 800,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, the company said.
With the addition of electric motorbikes in Indonesia, Green SM said it was strengthening its green mobility ecosystem by offering electric taxis for longer journeys and electric motorbikes for faster and more flexible urban travel.
