Grab Holdings Ltd, Southeast Asia’s largest ride-hailing and food-delivery company, is in talks to acquire a majority stake in Singapore-based Buy-Now-Pay-Later platform Atome Financial, Bloomberg reported on Thursday, quoting people familiar with the matter.
The deal could value Atome Financial, a unit of Advance Intelligence Group, at more than $2 billion, the people said, asking not to be identified as the discussions are private. Deliberations are ongoing and no final decision has been made, they said.
Representatives for Grab, Atome Financial and Advance Intelligence Group declined to comment, the report added.
Listed in the US, Grab has been pursuing growth through both acquisitions and expansion of its existing businesses, according to the report. Earlier this year, Grab acquired US-based Stash Financial Inc at an enterprise value of US$425 million and bought Foodpanda’s Taiwan operations from Delivery Hero SE for $600 million, Bloomberg reported.
Atome, whose name is derived from the phrase “available to me”, provides buy-now-pay-later and other payment solutions to consumers at online and offline merchants across categories including fashion, beauty, lifestyle, travel, fitness and homeware, information from its website showed.
Advance Intelligence Group, Atome’s parent, is backed by investors including SoftBank Vision Fund 2 and Warburg Pincus, according to the report.
