Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd, the state-owned enterprise which had been appointed to develop, operate and maintain the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project, announced Monday a collaboration with Revenue Group Berhad, one of Malaysian payment solutions providers, to power its mobile application with advanced payment tokenization technology.

The collaboration enables passengers using the Sarawak Metro mobile app to tokenize their cards and selected e-wallets, allowing for seamless, secure fare payments without the need to re-enter payment details for every transaction, the duo said in a statement.

The solution also supports MyDebit Card Not Present (CNP) payments, enabling Malaysian debit cardholders to make secure digital payments directly through the app, further expanding convenient and accessible payment options for passengers.

It is noted that tokenization replaces sensitive payment information, such as a card’s primary account number, with a unique digital identifier.

Once tokenized, a passenger’s card or e-wallet can be used to pay fares quickly and securely, reducing friction at the point of payment while safeguarding sensitive data from exposure.

For Sarawak Metro passengers, this collaboration delivers effortless fare payments as tokenized cards and e-wallets allow passengers to pay with a single tap, without repeatedly entering payment details.

It also enhanced security as sensitive card and account information is never stored or transmitted in raw form, reducing exposure to fraud.

It also offers flexible payment options with support for major cards and selected e-wallets gives passengers greater choice in how they pay.

The digital payment integration also supports Sarawak Metro’s broader vision of a modern, tech-enabled public transportation experience.

The integration with MyDebit Card Not Present (CNP) also enables passengers to use their Malaysian debit cards for secure digital fare payments, providing greater accessibility and supporting wider adoption of cashless transportation.

This collaboration reflects the continued digital transformation of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project, which is designed to ease traffic congestion in the Greater Kuching area and provide commuters with an efficient, technology-driven public transit alternative, said the statement.

By embedding secure, tokenized payment capabilities directly into the Sarawak Metro app, the partnership supports the state’s ambition to build a more connected and cashless public transport ecosystem.

“As Sarawak Metro continues to develop a modern and reliable public transportation system for the people of Sarawak, providing a seamless and secure payment experience is a key part of that journey,

“Our collaboration with Revenue Group allows passengers to pay their fares with greater convenience and confidence, and marks another step forward in our commitment to smart, passenger-centric mobility,” said Ts. Mazli Mustaffa, Chief Executive Officer, Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd.

Teh Chee Hoe, Executive Director, Revenue Group Berhad, said by bringing their tokenization capabilities and MyDebit Card Not Present (CNP) payment solutions to the Sarawak Metro mobile app, they are able to give passengers a payment experience that is both secure and effortless, while helping Sarawak Metro build a payment infrastructure that can scale with the growth of the Kuching Urban Transportation System.

“This collaboration reflects Revenue Group’s ongoing commitment to advancing Malaysia’s digital payment ecosystem,” he added.
