Malaysian telecommunications firm YTL Communications has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with global digital infrastructure firm Equinix and laser communications technology firm Transcelestial to bring global artificial intelligence (AI) cloud connectivity and laser-based wireless technology to Malaysia.
These strategic collaborations aim to bring cutting-edge technology solutions to businesses in Malaysia by enhancing connectivity and AI capabilities across the nation in a more
sustainable manner, YTL Communications said in a statement on Tuesday.
“These collaborations will accelerate the country’s AI adoption and digital transformation by equipping businesses with world-class connectivity and sustainable infrastructure,” said Wing K. Lee, Chief Executive Officer of YTL Communications.
According to the statement, YTL Communications will enable international customers to access the YTL AI Cloud through Equinix, enabling YTL AI Cloud to support the growing demand for accelerated computing regionally.
Through Equinix’s global interconnection services, businesses can have reliable and secure access to YTL AI Cloud for GPU-as-a-Service, enabling companies to have on demand access to the latest generation GPUs for their AI workloads.
With the YTL AI Cloud supported by 100 percent renewable energy at YTL’s 500MW Green Data Center Park, this collaboration will enable businesses to embrace AI with no impact on climate sustainability, in line with global trends towards responsible development of AI.
“By combining cutting-edge AI technology with sustainability, we empower businesses to innovate using AI while promoting environmental responsibility,
“And with the global reach powered by Equinix Fabric, this twin-benefit can be extended to more businesses,” said Lee.
David Bate, Senior Vice President of Sales, Asia-Pacific, Equinix, commented that enabled by modern, sustainable data centers, AI is fueling the modern economy and transforming lives.
According to him, this collaboration will bring businesses in Malaysia access to the firm’s extensive cloud, network and global AI ecosystems.
It is noted that YTL Communications is the first telco in Malaysia to harness Transcelestial’s wireless laser communications technology to deliver network with fiber-class connectivity with a new level of flexibility.
This solution eliminates the need for physical cables, enabling fiberclass ultra-low latency and high-capacity connections.
Transcelestial’s shoebox-sized CENTAURI devices offers unparallel deployment flexibility to deliver high-capacity spectrum-free connectivity through lasers, without the need for physical fiber cables.
“Transcelestial’s innovative technology has the potential to provide fiber-level connectivity over terrains and environments that would normally pose challenges to conventional fiber optic cables,” said Lee.
According to him, this partnership will help the firm better serve its customers as data consumption continues to growth – in line with Malaysia’s drive toward a digital nation.
“We look forward to improving the performance and resiliency of our network and to enable enterprise customers through this new partnership,” he said.
Rohit Jha, Chief Executive Officer Co-Founder of Transcelestial, said by partnering with YTL comms as the first telco in Malaysia to adopt its laser technology in network, the firm is enabling fiber-like speeds while unlocking new levels of resilience and flexibility for network infrastructure.
“This collaboration not only accelerates the nation’s digital and AI ambitions but also empowers businesses and communities to innovate, compete, and thrive in the global digital economy,” he added.
