AutomationSG, a professional trade association in Singapore representing companies and professionals in the automation, internet-of-things (IoT), and robotics sectors, has on Wednesday launched the Trusted Industrial AI Ready (TIA-Ready) Framework.

The association said in a statement that the industry-led readiness and recognition pathway is designed for companies deploying artificial intelligence (AI) in industrial automation, robotics, manufacturing and operational technology environments.

It gives companies a practical way to begin with one defined AI use case, assess its risks, assign accountability, introduce appropriate controls and build evidence for responsible deployment.

The launch comes as Singapore expands practical guidance for trusted AI adoption.

On July 20, the Infocomm Media Development Authority released a Digital Twin for Enterprises Playbook, Transparency Guidelines for Generative AI Chatbots and new privacy-enhancing technology guidance, including federated learning. Together, these initiatives reinforce the need for enterprises to connect AI adoption with governance, cybersecurity, transparency, data protection and organizational readiness.

TIA-Ready complements these national initiatives by moving industrial AI governance to the point where an organization first decides whether and how AI should be used.

Before selecting data, building a model or conducting validation, companies define the intended purpose, foreseeable unintended uses, affected decisions, accountability, operational boundaries and acceptable risks for a specific industrial AI use case.

These upstream decisions determine what data is relevant, what controls are required and what testing must prove.

It is noted that data may be secure and properly controlled but still be unsuitable for the intended purpose; similarly, a model may perform well against a test that does not represent the actual operating conditions or consequences.

TIA-Ready connects management intent, data governance, testing and deployment
within one bounded industrial use case.

Digital twins, AI-enabled robotics, predictive maintenance, machine vision and AI-assisted engineering increasingly combine data, software and physical operations.

In these settings, an AI output can influence production decisions, equipment behavior, quality, safety and customer commitments. Industrial
companies therefore need controls that address both digital risks and real-world operational consequences.

The framework translates relevant Singapore and international guidance into a staged pathway for industrial deployment.

It is benchmarked against ISO/IEC 42001, the international standard for AI management systems, but is not a new standard, statutory approval or ISO certification scheme.

Companies can progress through the Managed, Governed and Ready stages. The approach is use-case scoped rather than enterprise-wide at the starting point, making it more accessible to small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), system integrators, manufacturers and industrial solution providers that need a structured first step before pursuing higher-assurance requirements.

TIA-Ready is based on an independent review of the evidence prepared for the defined use case.

The review checks that the required evidence exists, can be traced to the relevant framework requirement and has been prepared in accordance with the TIA-Ready Framework.

It does not decide whether the company’s business choices are correct, certify that its controls will prevent every harm, or take responsibility for the artificial intelligence system.

The company remains responsible for the accuracy and completeness of its evidence, the effectiveness of its controls, its acceptance of any remaining risk, and all legal, safety, operational and commercial consequences.

AutomationSG said it has convened a TIA-Ready Framework Steering Committee with representatives from the industrial ecosystem to guide the framework’s development and implementation.

The framework has also undergone desktop validation with two SME pilot companies, JM Vistec System and CADVision Systems, using AI-related business operation use cases to test its structure, clarity and practical application.

Singapore Polytechnic is working with AutomationSG as the training partner for TIA-Ready.

The first Industrial AI and Governance Literacy program is scheduled to begin in October 2026, covering AI risks, responsible use, data protection, workplace rules and basic safety expectations relevant to industrial environments.

“Trusted AI does not start with the dataset or the test result. It starts when management decides what AI should be used for, what it must not be used for, whose decisions it may influence and what risks the organization is willing to accept,

“Only then can a company determine whether it has the right data and whether it is testing the right thing. TIA-Ready gives SMEs and industrial companies a bounded, practical way to begin without having to start with an enterprise-wide program,” said Saw Biing Huei, Chief Executive Officer of AutomationSG.

AutomationSG said it will work with industry, training and assessment partners to support pilot implementation, capability development and TIA-Ready Recognition.

The framework will also be periodically reviewed as Singapore’s AI governance guidance, industry practices and international standards evolve.

Singapore establishes taskforce to strengthen cyber and technology resilience against AI-driven threats
