Huawei has joined Thai government agencies, telecom carriers, large language model developers, AI associations, and universities to launch the Thailand AI Ecosystem Initiative, in order to push Thailand as a hub for AI innovation in Southeast Asia.

In a statement on Friday, Huawei said the joint initiative was launched at the Huawei Thailand Digital & AI Summit 2026, in Bangkok on July 23 and 24. The summit was co-hosted by Huawei and Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society.

The Thailand AI Ecosystem Initiative, proposed by Huawei and the AI Association of Thailand alongside local enterprises and universities, aims to build an inclusive local AI ecosystem that balances governance and innovation while developing local digital talent.

Chaichanok Chidchib, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, said Thailand is advancing through three pillars of infrastructure, trust, and people. Thailand, as a real-world AI governance sandbox, can help companies, researchers, and regulators work together to translate global principles into practical implementation, the minister added.

Austin Zheng, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Thailand, said local industries face five major bottlenecks in AI implementation covering computing resources, data, models, security, and talent. Huawei has put forward an ACT framework to address these assessing high-value scenarios to form commercial closed loops; calibrating AI models with vertical data to develop industry-specific models; and transforming business operations with AI talent to accelerate intelligent application development. Huawei will cultivate local AI professionals through the ASEAN Academy, the executive added.

Hong-Eng Koh, Global Chief Public Services Industry Scientist at Huawei’s Global Public Sector unit, said AI is evolving from assistive tools into industrial agentic applications, generating demand for frontier models and unified computing architecture.

Huawei’s AI solutions have served more than 2,600 enterprises across more than 30 industries worldwide, covering more than 500 business scenarios, with deployments in finance, transportation, manufacturing, and healthcare, the executive highlighted.
