Volt Singapore Pte Ltd (Volt), the electric vehicle (EV) charging arm of Keppel Ltd. (Keppel)’s Infrastructure Division, and Setsco Services Pte Ltd (SETSCO), a wholly owned subsidiary of VICOM Ltd (VICOM) have launched the city state’s largest public electric bus charging hub at Jalan Papan.

The charging hub will anchor turnaround charging for ComfortDelGro Bus (CDGB), the operator of Singapore’s largest private electric bus fleets, Keppel said in a statement on Tuesday.

Developed by Volt in collaboration with SETSCO, the charging hub features 2.76 MW of installed charging capacity, comprising 360kW and 120kW fast chargers across 46 charging lots.

The hub is designed to support charging and rapid turnaround for all types of electric vehicles, including cars, taxis, buses, light and heavy goods vehicles.

The hub is developed in phases, and when fully developed, the facility can support concurrent charging for up to 70 electric vehicles.

With its high-powered charging, charging time for compatible electric cars can be as fast as 10 minutes, similar to the experience of refueling an internal combustion engine car.

Volt has also been appointed by CDGB as its charging partner for electric bus fleet operations, with the charging hub at Jalan Papan serving as the key charging base for CDGB’s fleet.

The charging hub will support electric buses that operates in the western region of Singapore. CDGB’s anchor commitment validates the Jalan Papan facility’s positioning as a centralized, ultrafast and scalable solution for heavy-vehicle fleet electrification.

“As Singapore accelerates the transition towards cleaner transport, large-scale fast charging infrastructure will play a critical role in supporting the growing deployment of electric buses and light and heavy goods vehicles,

“The opening of Singapore’s largest public electric bus charging hub at Jalan Papan is a significant milestone in Volt’s efforts to scale up EV infrastructure, enabling the adoption of cleaner transport options while strengthening our position as a leading owner and operator of sustainable infrastructure,” said Lim Yong Wei, Executive Director of Volt.

“By working closely with our partners such as CDGB and SETSCO, we look forward to delivering reliable, high-performance charging solutions to meet the needs of fleet operators,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ng Soon Lee, Acting Chief Executive Officer of SETSCO, said sustainability has always been at the core of SETSCO’s business.

“With the launch of Setsco @ Jalan Papan, we are building an integrated ecosystem that supports the future of sustainable mobility, from vehicle inspection and heavy vehicle servicing workshops to EV charger inspection and testing capabilities,

“The EV charging hub is a natural complement to this development and underscores our commitment to enabling a greener, smarter and more sustainable future,” he added.

Since 2022, Volt’s network has grown to nearly 500 operational chargers across over 150 sites, with more than half being DC fast chargers, reflecting the fast growth of demand for high-power EV charging infrastructure to support fleets and heavy vehicles.

The EV charging infrastructure at the hub will be remotely monitored and optimized from Keppel’s Infrastructure Division’s state-of-the-art Operations Nerve Centre (ONC).

Using AI and machine learning, the ONC analyses operational data to enable predictive maintenance, detect anomalies and forecast charging demand which in-turn enables fleet operators to benefit from higher charger reliability and faster fault detection.
