AI Singapore, a ministry-run talent development body, has launched the inaugural AI for Good Festival initiative, to expand AI literacy and responsible AI education at scale.

In a statement on Wednesday, AI Singapore said the event aims to reach more than 5,000 youths through hands-on activities and interactive workshops over three days at each venue. The festival kicked off at Republic Polytechnic with Minister of State Jasmin Lau as guest of honor.

The initiative is developed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services and Micron Technology and in support of Singapore’s national Digital for Life movement. It is one of the few regional festivals to combine youth leadership with AI literacy, bringing together government, industry, philanthropy, educators, and community partners.

The festival features youth-designed, gamified AI learning booths translating AI concepts into real-world scenarios, including Deepfake Detectives, which uses the National Library Board’s S.U.R.E. framework to help participants spot AI-generated content; and AI Decision Zone, which places participants in real-world AI ethical dilemmas covering fairness, privacy, safety, and responsible use.

Student-led public-good projects on display include Hear2Go, an AI-powered mobile app built with the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped to help visually impaired commuters travel more safely through real-time bus detection and voice announcements; VermiMetrics, which uses AI-powered smart vermicomposting to address Singapore’s food waste challenge of an estimated 2,164 tonnes discarded daily; and Calm Path, a breast cancer support app offering AI-guided answers to health questions alongside screening tools.

Koo Sengmeng, Director of Talent and Ecosystem at AI Singapore, said AI literacy is just the starting point, and that what truly matters is enabling every individual to move from understanding AI to actively applying it in ways that create real, everyday value.

The festival supports Singapore’s updated National AI Strategy, which seeks to develop workers who are AI bilingual, with deep mastery of their domains and sufficient AI capability to apply AI in their workflows. A second edition will run from August 18 to 20, 2026, at ITE College East.
