The United States’ semiconductor firm Amkor Technology plans to increase the annual output of its Vietnam factory from 675 million to 1.2 billion items, according to its draft environmental impact assessment report.

In the report submitted to Bac Ninh province’s authorities, Amkor Technology said the change is equivalent to 236.3 tons of products going up to 420 tons a year. The move is part of Amkor Technology’s plan to up the annual output to 3.6 billion items.

For the next phases of 1.2 billion items and beyond, Amkor Technology, a provider of semiconductor packaging and testing services, said two production lines is set to complete machine installation in the third quarter of 2027. Besides, another production line is set to begin installation in the last quarter of this year.

The plant now has 1,587 laborers and is set to employ 3,700 people during stable production.

The project was licensed in Vietnam’s northern province of Bac Ninh in November 2011 with an investment of $529 million and an annual output of 420 tons a year. The investment was increased to $1.6 billion in June 2024 and the annual output was hiked to 1,600 tons a year. The factory was inaugurated in October 2023.
