Tencent Cloud, a leading cloud company, has launched its 2026 “AI CAN DO IT” Game Development Hackathon during the “Tencent AI Campus Tour” event held at the University of Hong Kong on April 16.
In a release on Friday, Tencent Cloud said the competition will span five regions: Hong Kong and Macau, East China, North China, South China, and Southeast Asia. Selected teams from campus rounds and regional competitions will advance to the global finals at the 2026 Tencent Global Digital Ecosystem Summit in September.
The initiative is co-organized with Tencent WeTech Academy, which promotes AI education and applications across universities in Hong Kong and Macau.
At the launch event, students and speakers demonstrated practical applications of AI in game development. A project presented by a University of Hong Kong student featured a gamified learning application designed for children aged 6 to 12 with attention difficulties. The application uses structured content and interactive features to support engagement and learning.
Speakers at the event also demonstrated AI tools used in coding and academic contexts, highlighting their ability to assist in software development and research-related tasks.
The hackathon focuses on three main themes: social impact, cultural expression, and narrative innovation. Participants are encouraged to integrate AI into various aspects of game creation, including design, storytelling, and user experience.
The program reflects a broader trend of integrating artificial intelligence into creative and technical fields, particularly in game development and education.
