Vietnam-based technology firm FPT Corporation has officially broken ground on its Artificial Intelligence Research Center in Gia Lai Province, Central Vietnam, marking a key milestone in the corporation’s long-term strategy to strengthen artificial intelligence (AI) research, technology infrastructure, and AI-augmented workforce development.
The firm said in a statement on last Friday that planned on a total area of 11.13 hectares with an estimated investment of VND 613 billion ($23.27 million), the center comprises three core functional zones: an AI research and digital technology services center, a research and testing area for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and a data infrastructure center.
The AI research and digital technology services center is expected to commence operations in 2027.
According to the statement, the Gia Lai AI Research Center is positioned as a critical component of FPT’s global AI development network, serving as a hub for advanced research, technology experimentation, and digital services development.
It is also designed to support the training and development of a high-quality technology workforce for FPT, the local community, and the nation.
Nguyen Khai Hoan, FPT Software SEVP, FPT Corporation highlighted Gia Lai’s favorable conditions as a key driver of the investment decision, including proactive local governance, an emerging science and innovation ecosystem, and a young, dynamic workforce.
“Once operational, the center is expected to support a workforce of more than 4,000 technology professionals while contributing to the training and development of 2,000 local students, strengthening a future-ready digital talent pipeline aligned with industry demand and provincial development priorities,” he added.
Reaffirming its long-term commitment to collaborating with the government and local authorities, FPT highlighted its role in mastering strategic technologies, enhancing technological autonomy, and contributing to Vietnam’s long-term and sustainable development.
The corporation recently announced the establishment of its Strategic Technology Steering Committee, bringing together five specialized units spanning AI, cybersecurity, unmanned systems, mobility technology, and digital platforms.
Developed to international standards through global partnerships, the AI Research Center is expected to serve as a strategic AI and data infrastructure hub, driving innovation, attracting international investment, and contributing to sustainable socio-economic development in Vietnam and beyond.
As an AI-first company, FPT said it embeds this technology across all solutions.
The company’s AI infrastructure features cutting-edge AI Factories in Vietnam and Japan, powered by NVIDIA’s GPU technology, which have been ranked among the world’s Top 40 fastest supercomputers.
FPT is also committed to building an AI-augmented workforce, with more than 25,000 AI-proficient engineers and multiple AI centers operating across Vietnam.
