Vietnam-based technology firm FPT Corporation has announced a $100 million investment in its Quantum AI and Cyber Security Research Institute as part of a broader strategy to advance core technologies, strengthen high-quality talent, and support Vietnam’s long-term technological sovereignty.

The firm said in a statement on Tuesday that it has recently announced the establishment of its Strategic Technology Steering Committee, comprising five units: Quantum AI and Cyber Security Institute (QACI), FPT UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), FPT Railway Mobility Technology (FMT), FPT Cyber Security, and Digital Conglomerate 5.0 (DC5).

The move reflects the firm’s commitment to mastering core technologies and building a high-quality workforce in support of Vietnam’s technological sovereignty.

FPT’s Strategic Technology Steering Committee is chaired by Dr. Truong Gia Binh, FPT Founder and Chairman, with Nguyen Van Khoa, FPT Chief Executive Officer, serving as Standing Vice Chair, alongside members of FPT’s Executive Board.

The Committee will be responsible for leading and overseeing the implementation of strategic technology directions across the corporation.

“The world is entering a profound shift in technological power, as artificial intelligence (AI) automates knowledge, semiconductors become the foundation of every industry, cyber security defines digital sovereignty, and quantum technology opens a new era of computing.”

“In this transformation, people are the most valuable resource and sustainable competitive advantage. Harnessing Vietnamese intelligence, FPT will bring together the nation’s leading tech talent to address national challenges and advance technological frontiers,” said Dr. Truong Gia Binh.

Under this strategic framework, FPT is accelerating focused investments and leadership appointments across five core technology domains.

In railway mobility technology, Pham Minh Tuan, FPT Software CEO and EVP, FPT Corporation, has been appointed to lead FPT Railway Mobility Technology.

This initiative builds on FPT’s established global track record in automotive design and manufacturing, automotive software, semiconductors, internet of things (IoT), and SCADA, as well as its experience supporting large-scale, 24/7 systems in safety-critical industries such as aviation, energy, and oil and gas.

For Quantum technology and AI, FPT has established the Quantum AI and Cyber Security Research Institute (QACI), led by Professor Ho Tu Bao as Scientific Director and Associate Professor Ngo Xuan Bach as Institute Director.

QACI will focus on research, solution development, doctoral and advanced expert training, and international collaboration.

The institute is also among the first quantum research institutes founded by a Vietnamese enterprise, with FPT committing an investment of $100 million.

In line with its strategic focus in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), which is projected to reach $10 billion in market size by 2035, FPT has appointed Vu Anh Tu, FPT Chief Technology Officer, as Director of FPT UAV.

The company has been actively advancing Vietnam’s low-altitude economy through the establishment of the Low-Altitude Economy Alliance, chaired by FPT CEO Nguyen Van Khoa, and by promoting cooperation between the Japan UAS Industry Development Association (JUIDA) and the Vietnam AUVS Network (AUVS VN).

Data strategy will be advanced through FPT DC5, led by Mr. Pham Duy Phuc as Director, with the objective of building a data platform that is delivering greater value at the national level while enhancing customer experience.

Cyber security capabilities are also strengthened under FPT Cyber Security, led by Pham Tung Duong, FPT Software Chief Information Security Officer, FPT Corporation, with a focus on research investment and ecosystem development to support a secure, autonomous, and sustainable digital environment.

Science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation are identified by Vietnam as critical breakthroughs and core drivers of a renewed development model, supporting the country’s ambition to become an upper-middle-income developing economy by 2030 and a high-income developed nation by 2045.

In this context, the designation of 11 national strategic technology domains highlights their foundational role across economic development, national defense, and security, underscoring Vietnam’s commitment to technological self-reliance.

With a long-standing track record of pioneering emerging technologies and building core digital infrastructure across the economy, FPT said the firm remains committed to collaborating with the government to master strategic technologies, enhance technological autonomy, and contribute to Vietnam’s long-term and sustainable development.
