Malaysia’s artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled carbon intelligence firm Sastena Technology Sdn Bhd and the Forest Research Institute Malaysia’s commercial subsidiary FRIM Incorporated Sdn Bhd have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance Malaysia’s leadership in science-backed, AI-enabled carbon intelligence.

The duo said in a statement on Monday that this partnership represents a strategic fusion of AI and nationally verified forest science, designed to strengthen Malaysia’s foundations in autonomous forest carbon assessment, monitoring, and transparent reporting.

The shared goal is to enable Malaysia to lead with credibility in both voluntary and future compliance-driven carbon markets — by embedding science-driven automation
into national carbon intelligence systems.

“We believe credibility drives value in carbon markets. This collaboration enables Malaysia to lead with transparent, science-backed carbon intelligence powered by AI,” said Ahmad Jazzri Jamaludin, Chief Executive Officer, Sastena Technology.

Meanwhile, Faizal Ramli, Chief Executive Officer, FRIM Inc, said with the right collaboration, their decades of forest research can support transparent pathways for climate reporting and carbon stewardship.

The signing was jointly witnessed by the Malaysia Forest Fund (MFF) and Cradle, Malaysia’s focal agency for early-stage startups, affirming confidence in homegrown climate intelligence solutions that strengthen Malaysia’s market readiness.

“This partnership exemplifies how Malaysia’s innovation ecosystem continues to mature – where startups, research institutions, and public agencies collaborate to deliver science-based, technology-driven solutions for national priorities,

“Cradle remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen Malaysia’s leadership in sustainable innovation,” said Norman Matthieu Vanhaecke, Group Chief Executive Officer of Cradle.

Both organizations will continue exploring alignment with MFF to support Malaysia’s carbon governance, transparency, and readiness in future climate frameworks, said the statement.
