OpenAI has on last Thursday launched the Sora app to Thailand, making it one of the first countries in Asia to access its next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) video creation experience.

The firm said in a statement that as part of the launch, the Sora app will also be made available in Vietnam and Taiwan.

“Thailand is home to one of the region’s most vibrant creative communities, and we are excited to support the next wave of Thai-made storytelling,” the firm said.

It is noted that since launching in the United States and Canada in early September, the Sora app has seen incredible momentum and adoption, surpassing one million downloads in under five days.

“Creators have already produced a variety of imaginative and original videos, and now we’re excited to see what Thai creators, artists and everyday storytellers will bring to life,” OpenAI said.

Powered by Sora 2, OpenAI’s advanced video generation model allows users to generate compelling, hyper realistic videos; remix creations from others and share new interpretations; discover new clips in a customizable Sora feed; step into any scene through Cameos after a short one-time video-and-audio recording in the app to verify their identities and capture their likenesses.

The Sora app supports local language, including Thai, enabling people to create videos that reflect local culture, humor and style.

Along with the app launch, OpenAI is also rolling out Character Cameos within the Sora app.

Thus, users can make cameos of characters from their life and imagination – a pet, a doodle, an object, or an original persona dreamt up in Sora.

These characters can be tagged and reused in future video generations.
