City Energy’s electric vehicle (EV) charging arm, Go by City Energy, has on last Thursday introduced Singapore’s first app-free EV charging experience, making green mobility more accessible across Singapore and Malaysia.

With the new “AutoCharge” system, EV drivers could simply plug in and charge, with no QR codes or logins required apart from a one-time set-up on the Go by City Energy app, the firm said in a statement.

Across to the statement, the seamless experience is now available across more than 200 charge points in Singapore and Malaysia, through a strategic collaboration with JomCharge – a network operated by EV Connection, one of Malaysia’s leading EV charging providers.

“We are now redefining the EV charging experience by making it truly effortless. With AutoCharge, EV drivers only need to register their vehicle once on our app. After that, they can simply plug in and power up without touching their phones – no apps, no QR codes, no hassle,

“EV charging with Go by City Energy could now be the most intuitive and appealing experience for EV drivers,” said Mr. Perry Ong, Chief Executive Officer of City Energy.

At launch, Go by City Energy will offer the AutoCharge feature at five locations: Pullman Singapore Hill Street, Klimt Cairnhill, Komo Shoppes, North Gaia and North Park Residences. Plans are in place to progressively roll out the feature to customers islandwide.

This is part of City Energy’s commitment to support Singapore’s green future and will have invested over $100 million to build ubiquitous EV charge points in private residential and commercial sites here by end 2030.

The AutoCharge system uses the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) issued by Go by City Energy and the EV’s unique Charge Controller ID (EVCC ID) to identify and authenticate the EV at the charge point.

When an EV is plugged in, the charger automatically detects the EVCC ID through the EV’s onboard systems via the DC charging connector.

The following EV car brands are compatible with AutoCharge: AION, BYD, Chery, MG and Tesla.

Go by City Energy is actively working with other carmakers to expand compatibility across a growing number of EV brands.

This launch aligns with Singapore’s goals under the Singapore Green Plan 2030, which calls for a major shift to cleaner transport.

Simplifying the EV charging experience is an important enabler of this transition.

By making EV charging as effortless as possible — for both domestic use and cross-border travel — City Energy is helping to accelerate consumer confidence and adoption of EVs in Singapore.

In addition to its work in green mobility, City Energy continues to invest in a broader portfolio of sustainability-focused solutions.

The company offers a range of Internet-of-Things-enabled smart home and kitchen appliances and solutions that help consumers monitor and manage their energy use more efficiently.

As the sole producer and retailer of piped town gas to over 900,000 homes and businesses in Singapore, City Energy remains committed to decarbonising its piped town gas business.

This includes exploring the integration of low-carbon hydrogen into town gas production and advancing lower-carbon alternatives and innovations — all in support of a more sustainable energy future for Singapore.

Together, these initiatives reflect City Energy’s evolving role as an energy solutions provider that actively supports Singapore’s journey towards a lower-carbon economy.
