Malaysian national carmaker Proton and tech firm Grab Malaysia have taken another step forward in strengthening the commitment to the e-hailing community with the expansion of their ongoing strategic partnership.

Proton said in a statement on last Friday that the agreement introduces more Proton model options, including the Proton S70 and premium X-Series models, while offering enhanced benefits to support Grab driver-partners as they continue earning on the platform.

The partnership builds on the success of the “Saga Power Up for Grab Driver-Partners” campaign launched in November 2024, which to date has generated 220 leads and recorded 148 vehicle registrations for the Proton SAGA.

The continued collaboration underscores the strong demand for PROTON’s models in the e-hailing segment and reinforces the shared goal of modernizing Malaysia’s ride-hailing with affordable and reliable cars.

Driver-partner can now choose from a broader selection of Proton’s models, including those under the GrabCar Plus and GrabCar (6-Seater) categories.

“Our strengthened partnership with Grab Malaysia marks a crucial step in empowering the e-hailing sector,” said Ong Chee Wooi, Deputy Director Sales, Proton EDAR.

“Proton is thrilled to make our S70 and premium X-series models more accessible to Grab drivers. For gig workers, this comprehensive program extends beyond exclusive benefits to assurance of driving Proton cars,

“Its reliability and affordable maintenance costs are important factors for those who use cars as their primary working tools,” he added.

Rashid Shukor, Director of Country Operations and Mobility, Grab Malaysia, said the firm is excited to deepen its collaboration with Proton, a testament to its unwavering commitment to empowering Malaysians with flexible opportunities.

For him, this collaboration has made it easier for the firm’s driver-partners to access vehicles, enabling them to earn and support their families while meeting the growing demand for rides.

“With the expansion of our partnership – now extending to the S70 and premium X-series models — drivers now have the chance to elevate their driving experience, upgrade their
vehicles, and cater to an even broader consumer base,

“We look forward to continuing this journey together to build a future where opportunities are accessible to all,” he added.

Proton began as Malaysia’s first national car project, founded with the aim to accelerate Malaysia’s economic development and lay the foundations for the local automotive industry.

In 2017, the firm entered its next phase to be a modern and global automotive brand; through a partnership between its two principals, Malaysia-based conglomerate DRB-HICOM and China-based automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group.
