Malaysia-based CIMB Bank Bhd has expanded its DuitNow QR payment coverage on the CIMB OCTO app to five additional markets — China, Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines and Laos — bringing its overseas payment network to nine markets.
The expansion, enabled through Payments Network Malaysia Sdn Bhd’s (PayNet) outbound DuitNow QR connectivity via Alipay+, allows customers to make payments at participating merchants by scanning QR codes displaying the Alipay+ logo and confirming transactions through the OCTO app, the bank said in a statement on Monday.
According to the bank, customers do not need to download another payment application or register for a separate Alipay+ account to use the service.
The five new destinations add to the app’s existing cross-border QR payment coverage in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand, alongside domestic payments in Malaysia.
Haniz Nazlan, CIMB’s group consumer banking chief executive officer, said the expansion was part of the bank’s Forward30 strategy to simplify and improve everyday banking services.
The service builds on PayNet’s partnership with Ant International through Alipay+, which connects more than two billion user accounts across over 50 international payment partners, with acceptance at more than 150 million merchants in over 220 markets.
The expansion also complements the existing inbound payment facility, which allows users of supported Alipay+ partner wallets to pay at DuitNow QR merchants in Malaysia, including small and medium-sized businesses.
CIMB said OCTO recorded more than 500,000 cross-border DuitNow QR transactions as of September 2026, an increase of over 150 percent from a year earlier.
The bank plans to extend the app’s access to more Alipay+ payment destinations as it expands its cross-border payment services.
