Malaysia-based Solarvest Holdings Bhd has appointed Joseph Wong Aik Peoy as Chief Executive Officer of engineering and operations, and James Lee Chung Min as chief Energy Transition Officer, as the group expands beyond renewable energy generation into energy storage, grid modernization and intelligent energy solutions.
The appointments come amid growing demand for reliable and flexible power systems as renewable energy penetration increases, creating a greater need for technologies to improve grid efficiency and manage intermittent electricity supply, the firm said in a statement on Tuesday.
Solarvest said the appointments would strengthen its management capabilities as it manages a growing project pipeline and diversifies its energy solutions portfolio.
Wong brings nearly two decades of experience across renewable energy, oil and gas, and major infrastructure projects. He has held leadership positions within a globally recognised integrated energy group, overseeing renewable energy projects internationally, as well as at a leading international engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company in the energy sector.
In his new role, Wong will lead the group’s engineering and operations functions, focusing on improving project execution as Solarvest undertakes larger and more complex developments.
His priorities include improving operational efficiency, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget, and establishing a scalable, artificial intelligence (AI)-powered operating framework to strengthen project quality.
The group also plans to introduce automation in project reporting, monitoring and early risk identification to improve accountability and make project delivery more predictable. These initiatives will be supported by rigorous safety standards and disciplined project controls.
“Success means consistently delivering projects safely, on time, within budget and to the agreed scope and quality. Our ambition is to make operational excellence a consistent competitive advantage for Solarvest. By combining our engineering expertise with AI-enabled efficiency, we aim to turn clean energy ambitions into reliable operating assets,” Wong said.
Meanwhile, Lee brings 16 years of experience in Malaysia’s renewable energy industry, covering technology innovation, industry advocacy and regulatory engagement.
He has contributed to national technical standards, including amendments to Malaysian Standard MS 1837:2018 to accommodate advanced inverter technologies, and industry consultations on renewable energy frameworks such as the Net Energy Metering (NEM) programme, Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme (Solar ATAP) and Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS).
His technical contributions include advancing string inverter technology for utility-scale solar projects, including a pioneering development in Sabah. Lee is also deputy president III of the Malaysian Photovoltaic and Sustainable Energy Industry Association (MPSEA).
As Chief Energy Transition Officer, Lee will lead the group’s technology adoption, industry engagement and regional market development strategies. He will focus on developing an integrated energy platform combining emerging technologies and solutions, while strengthening Solarvest’s presence in selected international markets.
“Technology will remain central to accelerating the energy transition. My priority is to advance Solarvest’s innovation and enhance our ability to deliver integrated energy solutions to address the increasingly complex needs of the power sector,” Lee said.
Solarvest Executive Director and Group CEO Davis Chong Chun Shiong said the appointments would strengthen the group’s project execution and technological capabilities as it enters its next phase of growth.
He said the energy transition would increasingly depend on the ability to integrate and manage renewable energy, with energy storage, intelligent energy management and grid modernisation becoming more important as renewable penetration rises.
Wong’s project delivery experience and Lee’s technical expertise and industry engagement would provide complementary capabilities to support the group’s expansion beyond clean energy generation, Chong added.
