Binance, one of the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, is investigating a security incident that it estimates has an overall impact of about $6.3 billion, and will cover all losses.
In a statement at 09:23 on Friday, Binance said it has frozen affected assets, with about $3 billion frozen on-chain so far, and that it is working with blockchain partners and law enforcement.

Binance emphasized from its initial investigation. the incident may have involved a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer. That device allowed an attacker to reach a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. Binance said it had found no evidence that any wallet private key had been leaked.
Binance said it would cover all losses from its Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU) and from its own funds. It said user funds are safe. It also said it had revoked the affected address authorization and engaged law enforcement and blockchain intelligence partners to trace and recover funds.
The exchange said deposits and withdrawals remain suspended while security checks are completed.
